The concept for The Fold was inspired by the 1908 synagogue already on the site. The idea that our history is the root of our development, and that it should be preserved, provided fertile ground for the new design.

The design chosen is a series of seedpod like guest suites, sprouting from the earth behind the original building, which has been redeveloped as a community space. As a tree dispersing seeds, the original synagogue stands tall, it isn't harmed by the new life it forms. The new design takes on certain characteristics of the original, but as in life, they evolve into new forms and shapes

The Star of David is a symbol of protection and history of the Jewish people. The aim was to represent this emblem within the design in a significant way while still being inclusive to all. This element will be incorporated in custom randomly placed tiles and in the metalwork on various railings.
